OK! I’m about to put myself out there. I keep telling folks that they can DIY (Do-It-Yourself), with emphasis on starting businesses, writing books, recording songs and distributing the music they create. So, using my son (1-O.A.K.) as a benchmark, I’ve decided to put my own gifts and talents on the line as a case study for everyone to follow. While maintaining my day job, I’m going to turn some of my poems into songs; I’ll record, publish and digitally distribute the songs I write; I’ll record, publish and digitally distribute some jazz standards I love to sing; I’ll create YouTube videos for the songs I record; and I’ll compose new songs along the way. This is the next stage in the evolution of me. My writing has always come from a place within, whether imaginary or experiential. My book, I Write Poetry contains poems I wrote when I was 16 years old. That was almost 40 years ago, so my imagination has expanded and my experiences have increased. DISCLAIMER: I’m a creative deep thinking individual, so don’t judge. If you decide to end this ride with me before I reach my destination, I won’t feel no kind of way about it-for real! This commentary will be “no holds barred,” so buckle up for this roller coaster ride. I’ll keep you updated on my progress, through my blog and other social media platforms. My goal is to become an Indie Entrepreneur. Like My Mama said to me “Nothing beats a try but a failure.” Katrina Watts-McFarland | October 17, 2017
